The Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Bishops Cannings, Wiltshire, England
The first time we visited St. Mary the Virgin, Bishops Cannings, turned out to be a very busy time for the church members as they were preparing for Easter services. Despite their busy-ness we received a warm welcome and were even treated to a quick tour and given information we might otherwise have missed, such as the spire is the same height above sea level as Salisbury Cathederal. Thank you for our welcome!
Most of our photographs at that visit were taken using a video camera and capturing a shot. Unfortunately the resulting photographs are very poor quality. In September 2017 - a mere 15 years later - we went back to the church and asked if we could take more photographs using a 'proper' camera. Again we were welcomed and invited to take our photographs to share on this website.
We took over 400 new photographs on that visit but such is the wealth of history in this church, there is still much more to photograph so we will need to go back again. Next time though we hope it won't be a 15-year gap like there was last time!
The church of St. Mary the Virgin is a Grade I listed building - more information about the listing can be found at the Historic England website.
