The Church of St. Mark the Evangelist, Swindon, Wiltshire

This is the grave of Emma Brent Gooch, wife of William Frederick Gooch.  Frederick was the first Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon Superintendent at Swindon Great Western Railway works.  He was the brother of Sir Daniel Gooch, someone who did great things for Swindon.  We understand although there is an inscription to William on this grave he is not buried here.

When we photographed this grave in 2012 there was quite a lot of brambles and weeds growing around it.  At that time we could see the inscription on one side of the grave but not the other.  We heard the good folks at Swindon Heritage had cleared around the grave in 2016 so we went back to take these photographs.

The grave is Grade II listed - see details of the listing at the  Historic England  website.
