Gorse Hill School is in the heart of the Gorse Hill community area of Swindon.  There were originally two buildings - one for the Infants and one for Juniors and the photographs on this page are of the original Junior School which dates from 1891.  Originally Avening Street was called School Street.

On updating this page in October 2018 we became rather confused as to the name of this bit of the School and whether the three buildings that appear to make up the school/nursery are conjoined or separate.  We think currently this part of the building is simply called 'Gorse Hill School' or possibly 'Gorse Hill School and Nursery' (as shown on its website) but is also described as Primary Academy.  We have a memory that a former link we put to this building's website called it Gorse Hill Primary School, but that website is now gone or updated.  It may also have been part of the entity 'Gorse Hill School and Childrens Centre' as shown in a photograph below.  It seems we must re-visit to establish what it is now called and we will update this page accordingly.
