NEAR THIS PLACE LIE THE REMAINS OF
AMBROSE GODDARD ESQRE
AND OF SARAH MARIA HIS WIFE.
THEY LIVED NEARLY FORTY YEARS IN THE ADJOINING MANSION
HAPPY IN THE LOVE OF EACH OTHER,
AND IN PROMOTING THE HAPPINESS OF ALL AROUND THEM
THOUGH SEVERELY TRIED,
BY THE LOSS OF MANY OF A NUMEROUS FAMILY.
HE REPRESENTED THE COUNTY OF WILTS IN PARLIAMENT
33 YEARS HONESTLY AND FAITHFULLY.
SEEKING NO REWARD BUT THE TESTIMONY OF HIS OWN CONSCIENCE
AND THE ESTEEM OF HIS CONSTITUENTS.
HIS WIFE WAS HIGHLY GIFTED
AND A BRIGHT EXAMPLE OF CHRISTIAN GRACE.
THEY BOTH ENDEAVOURED TO SERVE GOD BY DOING TO MAN
THROUGH THE MERITS OF CHRIST.
MAY THEIR SERVICES BE ACCEPTED AND THEIR HAPPINESS PERFECTED
IN A BLESSED ETERNITY.
A:G: OB: JUNE 1815. S:M:G: OB: APRIL 1818.
THIS TABLET IS PLACED BY THEIR FEW SURVIVING CHILDREN
AS A MEMORIAL OF THEIR GRATITUDE AND AFFECTION.
