The memorial is so eroded we can only read a part of the inscription and although the name is tantalisingly viewable it is not actually readable.  Awful though our photographs are, we did not want to discard then in case somebody can read more and perhaps give us the correct information.

This is our interpretation of the words on inscription:

Sarah Green(a)way
who died May 25th 1780 (1789?)
Aged 74 (71?) Years

We did some investigating and we have a possible name of Sarah Green(a)way.  But this is only guesswork.  We searched the wonderful Wiltshire On-line Parish Clerks website and the only document of that time period is the marriage register dated 1606 to 1837 - this records the marriage on 26th March 1748 of Francis Greenaway to Sarah Edwards.  We think we can see AR in the first name on the inscription so this would fit and we can make the markings fit Greenway for the surname.  But we may be completely wrong.

We have included all the photographs we took of the memorial even though we cannot read it properly in the hope someone else can read it or knows the details on it.  There are a couple of the decoration carved into the stone too.
