Our photographs are a snapshot in time to show a building's history.
Businesses shown may no longer be trading here.
It is so good to see the decoration and maintenance of this old building is kept to a high standard. The business climate has been harsh over the last number of years and many buildings have suffered, but The Kings looks even more splendid now than our last photographs taken 14 years before. Well done to those responsible.
The building is Grade II listed - details about the listing can be seen at the:
Historic England website.
According to David W. Backhouse's book 'Home Brewed' The Kings Arms Inn's exterior has not changed much since it was built, completed by 1870. It had opened between 1832 and 1837 in a different building to this one and over time the property has included a house, garden, flour house, baconhouse, brewhouse, stables, bakehouse and there was even a windmill somewhere at the rear. A copy of an advertisement shows the name as King's Arms Agricultural and Commercial Inn. For such a small book it certainly gives a lot of information!
