The Kingsdown Crematorium and Cemetery serves Swindon and the surrounding area. It is off the Kingdsown Road in near by Stratton St. Margaret. We have included a few photographs here, but there are many more on it's own page which can be seen at:
Kingsdown Crematorium.
The facility is run by Swindon Borough Council - see their
website for details and for opening hours. The offices deal with records from the other Swindon cemeteries also, and the staff here are very helpful should you have enquiries.
There is a chapel for cremation services, a smaller chapel, a covered area where floral tributes are displayed after a service, the gardens of remembrance, a baby memorial garden, a wall of remembrance and the burial area (cemetery), as well as an office and the necessary non-public buildings. The smaller chapel displays the Book of Remembrance, and there is a small seating area for privacy and contemplation. There are plenty of vases to enable floral tributes to be left in the chapel. The Book of Remembrance contains the names and dates for people who have been cremated at the crematorium; it is usually set at the current date but if pre-arranged can be opened for a particular date.
