The forecourt around the entrance to
Swindon railway station is called Sir Daniel Gooch Place. A nameplate and commemorative plaque was unveiled by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall on 20th October 2016. Also in attendance were lots of press (whose professional cameras made ours feel very inadequate), and a smiling crowd which included many children from near by Robert Le Kyng Primary School. The Duchess was presented with some flowers by two of these children - Alice MacNaughton and Jayden Blair. They must have been quite nervous but did their task wonderfully, no doubt watched on by relieved teachers and proud parents.
We have lots of photographs of the event and unusually for us we decided not to blur out the faces of people in our photographs. This is because we have recorded a moment in Swindon's history and blurring out those faces would mean nobody will see who was there and many of the photographs would look very odd as a result. If you are in one of our photographs and you do not wish it to be seen by others, please contact us and we will remove your face - you will need to tell us which photograph number and exactly which one is you.
