This car park has seen many changes in a few years.  Originally a school stood on this site and it became a car park when the school was demolished.  At one time during the evening it was a place where food was handed out to homeless people.  Around it buildings have gone up and been pulled down - the latest demolition meaning the car park has been closed.  We don't know if it is a permanent closure because it is on the edge of the Kimmerfield area which is still being developed so it may be part of this regeneration.

In photograph 00978 below you can see on the left, rear, the Carfax Street Car park which has been demolished, in the centre is the Carfax Street Surgery - now demolished and on the right is Davis House (Salvation Army hostel), now demolished.  Just showing in the foreground, left, are flags from the Menzies Hotel which ceased trading (although the building is still there).  In photograph 00215 you can see a little further to the right of photo 00978, and in the centre is where the Whalebridge Roundabout once was but is now filled in and is part pedestrian and part roadway.  In the distance can be seen a gasometer - now gone. On the right is the Arriva Ford car showroom which has also been demolished and now there is a hotel.  And in the lower section is the area that was the Central Police station but, as you can see, was in the process of being demolished and now has a NHS Walk In Centre, some homes and a car park built on the site.  Such a lot of changes in such a short time.
