Here are a few photograph of the original Shaw Ridge County Primary School in West Swindon. It was opened in 1985 and was replaced in 2009 by a new building. If we had known when we took these photographs that the school was to be demolished, we would have taken a lot more, but alas these are all we have.
Our daughter Michelle was a pupil here from 1989 to 1995 when Mr Keith Burke was the headmaster. We were very impressed with the school when we first looked over it (when deciding which school Michelle would go to) mainly because it felt a very happy place - children were busy and enthused by their work and they enjoyed being there; just the atmosphere we wanted. Indeed, she was very happy here, made some friends she is still in contact with, and it was a very good start to her school life.
Thirty years later her child started at the school too, but there was no sign of the old building. Just the stone wall at the side of the car park remains and at least one tree. Two of the teachers that taught Michelle are still at the school and it was nice to meet them again.
The new building is superb and we are pleased to say the school continues to thrive and has a great energy about it, and it continues to nurture our young in a happy and enthusiastic environment. See photographs of the current
