Our photographs are a snapshot in time to show a building's history.
Businesses shown may no longer be trading here.
Lucena House is located in the Shaw Village Centre in West Swindon. The ground floor was originally
divided into three business units and Shaw Veterinary Centre moved into No. 3 when the building was
new in 1989. Some years later No. 2 became vacant and the practice took over that unit too.
We don't usually like to comment about a particular business, but feel it would be nice to mention Shaw Veterinary Centre because they looked after our pets for many years. One particular event though was very memorable for us - our pet rabbit gave birth to twelve babies but the mother soon became ill and a week after she died. That left us with twelve very hungry, tiny babies to care for but no knowledge of how to do that. Most of the advice we could find basically said to euthanise them because they were 'only rabbits' and therefore of no value. But Shaw Vets did not agree and after some swift research were able to offer advice and support which gave Mandy the confidence to take over feeding the kittens their milk with a syringe and eventually weaning them. Over the weeks there were plenty of worried phone calls and visits and we were never made to feel a nuisance. Indeed, their concern for these babies matched our own! They continued to looked after their health needs until we found homes for them all. How grateful we were to Shaw Vets because it would have been dreadful to
have done nothing and watched those beautiful little creatures perish, but instead they thrived, and all thanks to the team at Shaw Vets going that extra mile.
