Swindon remembered the Centenary of the achievement of partial women's suffrage with numerous events including a Victory Breakfast, organised by Susan Pearson and friends.  Held at the Mariott Hotel on Thursday 5th July 2018 it replicated the breakfast held 100 hundred years earlier followed by speaches 'as' people from that time and further messages ending with two young women from a local school who gave us their generation's take on why women in the workplace today are still fighting for equality.

Mandy attended this Breakfast as a member of the Swindon Community Choir who sang a few songs from the era to greet people as they arrived, and at the end of the Breakfast lead the rousing 'March of the Women' (Ethel Smyth and Cicely Hamilton) which was the official anthem of the Women's Social and Political Union and the suffrage movement through the UK and beyond.  They also sang 'I Can't Keep Quiet' (Connie Lim - Milck) which has become a modern day anthem.

Below are photographs of the souvenier leaflet which gives more information about this event.  We'd like to add our congratulations to Susan and her friend who organised this event and we cannot apologise enough for forgetting the friend's name.  No doubt there were many others who were involved too including the staff at the Marriott and it all came together fittingly.  The event raised just under fifteen hundred pounds for Swindon Women's Aid.  Splendid. .
