Nos. 153 - 154 Victoria Road is located on the hill that links the Old Town area of Swindon with the new town centre.  The company at this address is Austin Leisure (which according to its website was originally called Austin Automatic Amusements) was established in 1967 and still going strong so they must be doing something right.

The frontage of this shop seems to have always looked like this in our memories - of course it must have been regularly decorated, but it isn't the paint we notice and remember it is the picture in the window of the rather appealing young lady playing one of their machines!  She and it was created by local artist Ken White - he also created the Virgin Atlantic 'Scarlet Lady' design which flew on the aircraft for 35 years before being retired in 2019.

It was so frustrating trying to photograph this picture - firstly there is a bus stop directly in front of the window, but perhaps more of a problem was the glass of the window in front - mostly we had lovely pictures of the houses and trees opposite!  By standing close to the window we could eliminate most of the reflection but then we would not fit in the entire picture.  So, apologies for the quality of our photographs of this Ken White picture.
