St. James church in Avebury is a fine building to visit. However, you may have to share your visit with many other people who have come to visit the tourist hot-spot of Avebury village. On our visit it was so crowded we had to queue to get in as a coach had just emptied its passengers. We decided to leave and go back later, and this time there were only one or two other people there.
There are some beautiful things to see inside the church building, and it maintains an appropriate atmosphere despite being invaded at times by visitors.
The church of St. James is a Grade I listed building - more information about the listing can be found at the British Listed Buildings website.
