St Anne's in Bowden Hill was built on the Common by the Gladstone family. This setting on the top of a hill gives it spectacular views over the surrounding Wiltshire countryside. For a British church, it is relatively modern, dating from the second half 19th Century. The stone carvings that decorate the building have not eroded in the same way older churches' carvings have so their detail can still be seen.
There is an information sheet in the porch for visitors with, amongst other items of interest, a brief background to the history of the Gladstone family and whey they built this church.
The church of St. Anne is a Grade II listed building - more information about the listing can be found at the British Listed Buildings website.
