The church of St. Sampson's is now the only parish church in the town. Previously there was also St. Saviours (which closed many years ago), and St. Mary's (which is a Catholic church).
The majority of these photographs were taken before we had a digital camera and are actually shots captured from a video camera. Unfortunately they are a very poor quality; these photograph's numbers start with 'D'. We are trying to replace all these old photographs but it is taking time as we have hundreds of places to visit and thousands of photographs to take.
Information about St. Sampson can be found at the:
Wiltshire County Council website. The church is a Grade I listed building - more information about the listing can be found at the
Historic England website.
We are very grateful to the church member who unlocked the church so we could take these photographs and stayed telling us about the long history of the church as well as problems associated the upkeep of such an historic building. Fortunately there appears to be people here who care about the future of the building as well as the past.
