Great Somerford is about 4 miles south east of Malmesbury in Wiltshire. According to writers John Aubrey and John Jackson in their book Wiltshire Collections, it appears to have gone by the names of Somerford Maltravers, Somerford Magna and Broad Somerford in the past. It is a most attractive place with red-brick or warm coloured stone buildings, a pretty river and the whole setting is peaceful.
