The Church of St. Katharine, Savernake, Wiltshire
The inscription on this stone shows the initials K. C. We cannot read a name - the inscription is very hard to read. We could make out 'Whit Sunday 1867', so we looked in the Burial records (which are available inside the church to view) and the only person with those initials around that time was Kate Chandler. We apologise if we have this wrong - if you know we have please contact us so we can correct our mistake. Thank you.
The entry in the records also shows us that Kate was living at Durley and aged 21 at the time of her death. She was buried on 12th June 1867 and the ceremony was performed by Edward Slater Browne. There is also a faint note: 'Training School Girls placed the stone'.
