Gravestones at The Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Marlborough, Wiltshire
We did not manage to photograph all of the gravestones in the church yard but have done most of them. Most are very old and the inscriptions are barely readable. Other stones where the inscription is no longer readable can be seen on the 'Unknown Gravestones' page (use the link above to see them).
If you download the full-size photograph you will be able to zoom in and may see the detail better. We have had to guess at some of the names and apologise if we have recorded a name incorrectly. If you notice a mistake please let us know so we can make the correction. Thank you.
It was pointed out to us that with just a few exceptions the gravestones are all led flat. It is thought the gravestones may have been placed this way originally because if they were meant to be upright, the space under the inscriptions would have been much longer (this would be the section that goes into the ground).
