Westport St. Mary, Wiltshire, England
Westport St. Mary lies at the edge of Malmesbury. Although it used to be a parish in its own right, changes split it into 'Within' and 'Without', but is now it is just considered to be an area of Malmesbury. Known as Westport, its centre is called The Triangle. From Abbey Row the B4040 road goes towards the Triangle and followed to the left will take you to Bristold Street; following the road right takes you to Gloucester Road.
The War Memorial is in the Triangle and commemorates Malmesbury as well as Westport St. Mary.
The Horse Fair area is where the philosopher Thomas Hobbes was born - see the Wiltshire Collections page to see a sketch of the house he was born in (now demolished).
We have included a couple of photographs relating to Mandy's family - Kate Lea (who became Mrs Exton) was Mandy's great-grand-aunt and was at one time the publican of The Plough public house. Kate moved to Cleveland, Ohio, USA in 1890.
