For anybody who used the Bruce Street Bridges regularly, you'll know what a pain they were.  Always queues in rush hour and very prone to flooding.

The bridges carry the Swindon to Cheltenham railway line.  This is a particularly busy road junction, where five roads roughly meet:  Cheney Manor Road, Kemble Drive, Rodbourne Road, Bruce Street and the Great Western Way which meanders itself from one side of the railway line to the other.  Viewed from above you would have seen one central area with four roundabouts at each corner where roads met.  The central area had the railway line almost cutting it in half.

In April 2015, major works started, costing millions of pounds.  The queues during this time were awful and went on for months and months and with apparently no end in sight.  As well as changing the layout of the road to make it a more conventional set up with just one central roundabout, these works included sorting out drainage problems that had added to the traffic problems.

The work was eventually completed of course in the spring of 2016, considerably late, and still now in 2017 there is more work taking place to adjust the traffic flow as it was thought it could be improved even more.  To be fair they seem to have fixed the flooding problems though!
