Number 1-3 Devizes Road is located in the Old Town area of Swindon and is approximately half of the whole building (the left side) shown in the first photographs below.  We do now know if originally this was three separate premises, but today the ground floor 'shop' area at least is just one room with one business in it.

Although the ground floor shop fronts change over time, if you look up we can see the original design of red-brick and contrasting decorative stone.  Very pleasing, especially as lots of Swindon's red brick buildings have been painted over and somehow lose their history in doing so.  There are more photographs of the building to be seen on the individual pages for  1-4 Devizes Road  and   4 Devizes Road  - whilst this page is mostly about number 1-3.

Our photographs start in 2008 with Mr Ashcroft's Pine Shop (which also occupied No. 4) and come up-to-date in 2019 with Los Gatos restaurant on the ground floor and The Eternal Optimist bar on the first floor.  The photographs do rather jump from one time to another as we show the areas of the building together but our pages are, after all, about the building not about the businesses in them.
