This war memorial is located in
Faringdon Road Park in the Railway Village area of Swindon. It was commissioned by South Swindon Parish Council to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1 - being unveiled on 10th November 2018. It was designed by Dr. Mike Pringle and remembers the part Swindon and its people played in the Great War. The upright corston sheets each represent a different aspect particularly associated with Swindon's war effort. There is an information board with the symbolism explained and we have very briefly mentioned
some under our photographs, but do read them in full in the photograph of the board (a little further down the page).
We are grateful to fellow Swindon history enthusiast Royston Cartwright for letting us use some of his photographs of the dedication ceremony to be shared on this page. Like us, Roy appreciates that current events are part of Swindon's history and thus should be recorded - future generations and historians will see that we do still care and do still Remember Them.
