Kingsdown Crematorium and Cemetery, Stratton St. Margaret, Wiltshire, England
The Kingsdown Crematorium and Cemetery serves Swindon and the surrounding area as well as Stratton St. Margaret. The facility is run by Swindon Borough Council - see their website for details, for opening hours and other information such as fees and facilities. The office here also deal with records from all Swindon cemeteries, and the staff here are very helpful should you have enquiries.
There is a Chapel for cremation services, a covered area where floral tributes are displayed after a service, two Gardens of Remembrance, a Baby Memorial Garden, a Wall of Remembrance and the burial area for ashes and a cemetery. There is also an office and the necessary non-public buildings. Further (public) rooms include a Floral Tribute room and a room containing a Book of Remembrance.
Over recent years the grounds have expanded and now include a cemetery as well as the crematorium. We were told in 2004 we are allowed to take photographs of the crematorium grounds for this website but at that time there was no cemetery; until we have checked we are permitted to photograph the gravestones we will not do so, therefore none currently appear on this site.
Towards the end of this first page are some photographs of the Chapel which were taken before changes took place - noticably the clear glass have been replaced with vivid colours, and the area where are flowers put at the end of cremation services has had a screen added to give it more privacy and protection from bad weather.
