We have a number of photographs of the Lansdowne Monument taken at various times. Due to it's hill top position, it can be seen for miles around so we have shots of it taken from various locations. It is in memory of Sir William Petty and is by Sir Charles Barry, and know as the Cherhill Monument as well as the Lansdowne Monument.
The Monument is Grade II* listed - more information about the listing and monument can be found at the
Historic England website.
We understand in 1990 the National Trust did some restoration work on the monument and have erected a net around it to catch stonework that might fall due to the freezing temperatures over winter. Therefore visitors can no longer get right up to the monument.
There are lots of white horses in Wiltshire and this is a very elegant design and in a most beautiful setting.
