These photographs have been taken over a number of years as we have visited Lydiard Park.  The House is pleasing to the eye with its symmetry and warm honey coloured stone and its setting in beautiful parkland.  It is Grade I listed - information about the listing can be seen at the  Historic England  website.

The House is open to the public throughout the week where the ground floor rooms, (those that have been extensively renovated), can be viewed.  The 'behind the scenes' staff have done an incredible job in the restoration - it has many interesting and beautiful objects and is furnished by someone with an eye for detail.  You can imagine the House being occupied by the St. Johns - almost hear the maids chatting and the cleaners being industrious whilst the family sit in the drawing room discussing topics of the day.

But this isn't just a house to look at!  There are frequent activities, such as making traditional Christmas decorations, and fun things for children to do (so they don't notice they are learning).  Our most memorable visit was when a string quartet were performing - this transporting us out of the 1990s and back to a bygone era.  Simply enchanting.
