The Parvise Room at Malmesbury Abbey, Malmesbury, Wiltshire

NOTE:  The page below was created after our visit in August 2000.  When we visited again in August 2012 we were told due to the difficulty of getting up to the room and that it was usually closed to visitors, the objects have been moved into the main part of the Abbey.  Therefore these objects below are not in the Parvise room any longer.

The photographs below were taken with a video camera and are of poor quality.  Back in 2000 when we were just starting to take our photographs we did not think to take any of the room itself, so although this page is called the Parvise Room it has no picture of the room and the objects shown below are no longer in it!

However, we have decided to keep this page as it was created because in itself it is capturing a moment in the Abbey's history.  We do intend eventually to re-take all the objects when time permits and they will appear elsewhere on the website; we will not replace the photographs below with the new ones.

original page:

The Parvise Room is sometimes open to the public, and is well worth the twenty spiral steps climb to visit it.  No flash photography is allowed in this room for fear of harming the hand-written and painted Bibles.  These photographs were all taken with a digital video camera so the quality is not too good, but as usual we felt it better to have a poor quality photograph than none at all.
