The Font at Christ Church, Swindon, Wiltshire
The font is located at the west end of the nave, between the west entrance door and the south porch entrance. It is carved marble and alabaster and matches other items in the building. Our understanding is that fonts once had covers on them to stop people taking the blessed water; our photographs below show two covers which have been in place during our visits. The tall metal cover is rather splendid - its proportions grand and its execution pleasing to the eye with its symetry and repeating patterns.
